Community Facilities Wilbarger General Hospital- One of the most advanced medical centers of its size in the state, Wilbarger General's services include CAT scans, sonograms, nuclear medicine, complete lab and pathology, inhalation therapy, cataract care and laproscopic surgery, among others. The hospital's medical staff includes general practitioners as well as specialists in obstetrics, gynecology, internal medicine, thoracic surgery, cardiology, radiology, otolaryngology, opthalmology, orthopedic surgery and neurology.
Wilbarger Memorial Auditorium- The modern, multi-use facility, covering an entire block, can accommodate up to three banquets and a concert simultaneously. The largest of the banquet rooms has a seating capacity of 550, while the main auditorium will seat 1,900. Two fully-equipped kitchens as well as several other smaller rooms are also available. With ample parking from two large lots, the auditorium provides an ideal location for conventions and area meetings.
Wilbarger County Airport- Once selected by the Texas Aeronautical Commission as the Outstanding Small Airport in Texas, Wilbarger County Airport boasts the latest in navigation aids and other aviation facilities. The up-to-date equipment, along with well-maintained runways, adequate fuel supplies , a comfortable terminal building and several hangars offering space for almost any size aircraft, make it the airport of choice for hundreds of miles in any direction.
Parks and Lakes- Three city parks provide ample space for family gatherings and outdoor recreation. The parks offer community buildings, shaded picnic areas, barbecue pits, playground equipment and baseball fields. A municipal swimming pool is also open during the summer, and a number of private pools are available to members. Several state parks are within easy driving distance of Vernon as well, including Copper Breaks State Park, 43 miles away; Quartz Mountain State Park, 48 miles; Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, 70 miles; and Great Plains State Park, 60 miles and Hackberry Flat Wildlife Management Area, 30 miles. Also nearby are several lakes which offer game fishing, boating and swimming opportunities, such as Lake Kemp, Lake Pauline and Lake Diversion.
Red River Valley Museum- Located on the campus of Vernon College, the Red River Valley Museum offers visitors a glimpse at everything from the Western and ranching heritage of the area to big game animals from exotic locations. The Waggoner Estate Room features sculptures by noted artist Electra Waggoner Biggs and a special collection pays tribute to famed jazz trombonist Jack Teagarden, a native of Vernon. In addition, traveling exhibits and other special displays are also featured on a regular basis.
Churches- Religion has traditionally been an important part of the Vernon Community with congregations representing many faiths available for worshipers.
